Technische Universitaet Graz - Austria

Within the Graz University of Technology, the FELMI (Institute for Electron Microscopy and Nanoanalysis) covers a wide range of scientific activities in the field of advanced microscopy of materials and biomaterials. The FELMI works in close affiliation with the Graz Centre for Electron Microscopy (ZFE), which holds many collaboration activities with industry. With 50 employees and state-of-the-art instrumentation, the FELMI-ZFE is one of Europe´s leading institute in materials microscopy.
The research interests of the 29 scientists (16 of them being TEM experts) cover: analytical transmission electron microscopy and thin film specimen preparation, in-situ investigations in environmental scanning electron microscopy, direct-write fabrication of functional nano-granular materials, nanostructuring by focused ion beam microscopy, polymer microscopy and chemical imaging of biomaterials (Raman and FTIR), cryo-scanning probe microscopy. Profound TEM expertise was developed for methods such as EELS and EFTEM elemental mapping and spectrum imaging, EELS near-edge fine structure analysis, low loss EELS imaging of plasmonic nanostructures, electron tomography, high resolution STEM of functional inorganic materials and interfaces in hybrid materials. Materials expertise: semiconductors, nano-granular materials, nanoparticles, solar cell materials, hybrid materials, steels and alloys, polymers.
